The monument "RAPP"

The general Rapp Place Rapp in Colmar

First public monument achieved by Frédéric - Augustus BARTHOLDI in 1856 (young sculptor of 18 years). The inauguration led to festivities that lasted three days.

Some months later, the statue, high of 4,70 meters, was exhibited on the Champs-Elysées for the first world fair of Paris.

The statue was broken during World War II when the strengths of occupation hurled down it to soil. It was saved of foundries of the 3rd Reich by some citizens colmarienses. Fortunately, the monument was reconstituted between 1946 and 1948.

Except a small absence required by the works of the new RAPP room the statue of the general Jean RAPP contemplates proudly of the top of its pedestal the new fountain of room.
