Auguste NEFFTZER, the journalist

Auguste NEFFTZER was born in 1820 in the 44, street of the Traders .

He started like journalist at the "Courrier du Haut-Rhin" , editor then manager of the Parisian newspaper "La Presse".

He founded with Charles Dollfus of Mulhouse the "Revue germanique" (Germanic Magazine) in 1858, newspaper that had to bring closer France and Germany.

But his name remained especially attached at the newspaper " Le Temps " (The Time) that he created in 1861 and that had to become one of the big French dailies of the Third Republic.

He is the father of Georges, died in 17 years, for whom Frédéric-Auguste BARTHOLDI created Funeral Genius at present in the surrounding wall of the Secondary school BARTHOLDI.

In this house was born Auguste Nefftzer 1820-1874. Great French journalist founder of the magazine germanique" and of the newspaper "le temps" 1860-1942.
